Vegan-ism – Is It Unhealthy?

Vegans do not consume animal products of any kind. That means they do not eat honey, eggs, meats, or any other dairy products. They also do not use any products made of leather, animal oils, or furs. Many vegans turn to this lifestyle because of animal cruelty, where they do not believe animals should be consumed nor exploited for profit. This is fine and dandy, however what most vegans do not realize is that everything around them that they use in everyday life is indeed a product of an animal, or many animals, which were killed in order to make a product that does not contain animals products. Make sense? No? Paper for example. The cutting down and replanting of trees used for paper and pencils kills millions of animals and insects. So does anything made from plastic or that is wrapped in plastic. In other words, everything in one form or fashion comes at the expense of an animals life. Now that it was just proven that turning to the vegan lifestyle does not have any impact on "saving animals lives", is it healthy to be vegan? Some people do turn to vegan-ism for dietary reasons, so lets examine if it really has any benefits.

Vegetarian and vegan diets are associated with reduced risks of heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and other diseases, AND fatty and red meats have been known to cause all of these ailments. However, sources of vitamin B12 are scarce in the vegan diet, whereas vitamin B12 is only naturally occurring in animal cells, yeast, or mold cells. It is essential to have B12 for brain development of children and adults. A deficiency of this vitamin can cause a plethora of problems for the heart and even cause brain damage. Vegans often are found to be suffering from malnutrition as well, especially the uninformed ones. They rely on fortified foods and supplements to sustain themselves and it has been proven time and time again that this is not a viable health solution for long periods of time. Experts do say that implementing the vegan lifestyle is an excellent way to detoxify the human body, but it is extremely unhealthy to do this for long periods of time. With all of the evidence and thousands of years of evolution to back it up, meats are absolutely necessary to sustain ones health as long as it is consumed in moderation.
